Finding out about an object

As a museum service we receive a large number of public enquries, both about our collections and items in private ownership. Although we have a vast amount of knowledge and information about our objects, we can't always find the answer to everything.

We currently have 164,000 records on our database for objects in the collections, but there is an awful lot of research still to be done. Because of the amount of enquiries we receive we can't always get back to you straight away, and it may be useful to think about the type of information you want before contacting us. The more details we have the easier it will be to help you. The following information is essential:

Your name and contact details

A full description of the information you require

Enquiries can be made by emailing museums@hullcc.gov.uk, or post to: Hull Museums Ferens Art Gallery Queen Victoria Square Hull HU1 3RA Telephone: 01482 613902.

If your enquiry is related to an individual, or archival records, Hull History Centre may be a better place to look. They can be contacted at hullhistorycentre@hullcc.gov.uk, or post to: Hull History Centre Worship Street Hull HU2 8BG Telephone: 01482 317500

We are sometimes approached to give valuations on objects, but unfortunately we are unable to do so for ethical reasons.
