- Painting entitled 'S S 'Eira'', by William F Preston (active1885-1889), 1889. Portside profile view of the steamship Eira, in full sail with three masts and white and black funnel, with red and black oval mark on the side, blue naval ensign with Jack at the top left and white crest; black hull, white whale/life boats alongside the decks with a bridge to the stern end. Sailing in arctic waters with ice floes. Built by Stephen and Forbes of Peterhead for MR B Leigh Smith, specially designed for cruising in Northern Regions. Launched 1880, Captain Lofley of Hull was master, George Robinson Byers was harpooner. Lost in ice 1881. Signed and dated at the bottom right.
