Brief Description:
Decorated staybusk made from whale's baleen. One side is decorated with, from the top: the starboard profile of a full rigged ship with sails furled flying a British ensign at the after plot; a triple lozenge frame enclosing stylised foliage; a stylised plant in a pot; the starboard profile of a single masted craft with sails furled; the starboard profile of a two masted craft with a pennant at the fore and a stars and stripes flag at the main; a stylised plant; two tendrils; inscription 'LOVE'; and a two-branched plant with inscription '1794'. Inscribed on the reverse is 'F. May' with leaves. The staybusk is extensively wormed along the margin.
