- Brief Description:
- Pen and ink drawing of Whitefriargate, Hull, by F.S. Smith. The image shows the street looking west towards the Wilberforce Monument. The Hull Packet office appears on the left and the Hull Express office on the right. The tall lighting tower, at the end of the street, is an electric arc light. This experimental electric lighting system was installed in 1882 but only lasted until 1884, when gas-lights were re-installed. A horse drawn tram can be seen approaching on the right and there are two horse-drawn carriages further up the street. Signed by the artist at lower left corner.
