- Newspaper cutting from the Hull Daily Mail, part of a series entitled 'Hull of Other Days'. It shows a sketch by Frederick Schultz Smith of St Johnâs Street, from the corner of Carr Lane and Waterhouse Lane. It shows the view before City Hall was built. The Punch Hotel appears on the right with the tower of St John's Church behind. A policeman is standing on the corner to the left. The text below reads 'Hull of Other Days - Here is a view of St. John's Street before the City Hall was built. The viewpoint is the corner of Carr Lane and Waterhouse Lane. St. John's Church was then standing, but property surrounding it wsa being pulled down in order to erect a new Punch Hotel. Later a lavatory was built in front of this church, but both were demolished to find at site for the Ferens Art Gallery. All the property from Engine Street (on the left) to Monument Bridge was demolished for the erection of City Hall. A picture of Engine Street will be published later.'
