- Brief Description:
- Chapel Lane, Hull, looking west, drawn by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), about 1883. The view shows the narrow cobbled lane with St. Mary's Church, on the corner with Lowgate, in the centre. In the left foreground is the Dossor Brewery, its windows broken, possibly indicating that the building is empty. The almshouse, known as Harrison's amd Fox's Hospital, stands next to the brewery on the left. It was established by John Harrison in the 16th century and rebuilt in the 18th century with funds donated by Margaret Fox. The premises of the butcher Henry King Bennett is visible on Lowgate at the end of the lane. Ink and wash on paper. Signed bottom right.
