Brief Description:
Bracket clock, wooden case with round dial on square plinth, cast brass bezel, movement with star wheel and rack striking - repeating on a single gong, ebonised drum head case supported by two scroll hands on a rectangular base with brass inlay and pad feet, shaped rear door has metal fret and is lined with silk, white dial with Roman numerals, two winding holes, scroll feature below dial, back has mesh in circular pattern. The clock makers are Jacobs & Lucas, Hull. Bethel Jacobs was a watch and clockmaker at 7 Whitefriargate, Hull between 1838-1872. He developed a partnership as Jacobs & Lucas from 1851 to 1858. In the latter part of July 1863 he erected an electrical time ball in front of his shop for the benefit of sea captains.
