- Green-tinted lithographic print of 'Old Newland Toll-Bar' by Frederick SchultzSsmith (1860-1925), about 1890. Scene depicts the Newland Toll Bar, which includes an octagonal building at the centre. There is a road in the foreground along which two figures are walking and across which there is fencing with a gap in the middle. The sides of the road are lined with trees behind a fencing. There is a signpost in the right foreground. Printed by Blunkitt & Saunderson, Lithographers, Hull, and published by J Farrell, Hull. One of five lithographic prints of 'Old Newland Toll-Bar' The Beverley to Hull Road, which passed through Newland was turnpiked by an act of 1744, with a toll bar established at Newland, at a place called Newland Bridge.The turnpike was renewed in 1764 and ran until it was discontinued in 1871.
