- Blue-tinted lithographic print of 'Old Newland Toll-Bar' from a drawing by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), printed by Burkitt & Saunderson Lithographers, Hull and published by J Farrell, Hull. Scene that depicts the Newland Toll Bar, which includes an octagonal building at the centre. There is a road in the foreground along which two figures are walking and across which there is fencing with a gap in the middle. The sides of the road are lined with trees behind a fencing. The Beverley to Hull Road, which passed through Newland was turnpiked by an act of 1744, with a toll bar established at Newland, at a place called Newland Bridge.The turnpike was renewed in 1764 and ran until it was discontinued in 1871.
