- Pencil drawing of Chariot Street at Medley Street corner looking towards Waltham Street, Hull, by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), 1900. It depicts a wide road with shops on either side. In the right background at the junction with Waltham Street stands the impressive shopfront of Nichol & Wood's grocers. On the left is E. Fugill's toy and fancy goods shop, with James Colley's sheet music and stationeers next door. Further along the street on the left stands the premises of Ellerington's Fent Warehouse, which is wrongly spelled as Ellerton in this drawing. Fent was a remnant of cloth. and lengths of cloth can be seen in the shop window. In the right foreground are the premises of H J Walker's Oyster Rooms, there were about thrity oyster and shellfish dealers in Hull at this time. Further down on the right marked by the distinctive barber's pole is the premises of Henry Saalfield, hairdresser. A woman stands looking in the shop window on the left, and there is another woman further along the pavement. On the back a handwritten note dates the drawing to Wednesday April 11th 1900. Typewritten label on reverse reads '452. Chariot Street looking towards Waltham Street'.
