- Brief Description:
- Newspaper cutting with a reproduction of a drawing of the new Market Hall in Queen Street, Hull, by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), 1887. The new Market Hall was built on the site of the Butchers Shambles in 1887. Built in the Flemish Renaissance style, it had a septagonal tower on the south-western corner and an octagonal tower at the north-east. The Queen Street frontage consisted of fourteen shops with large plate glass windows. The other sides of the building housed butchers shops. The Market Hall was destroyed in bombing in 1941. There are tramlines running along Queen Street and the scene includes many well-dressed pedestrians, as well as a policeman standing on the corner to the right.
