- Brief Description:
- Pencil drawing of Selby Abbey, as seen from Church Lane, by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), about 1900. The image shows the crossing tower and transept before the disastrous fire of 1906. The narrow street in the foreground has shops and houses on either side, one to the right with a projecting sign for 'Hartley's'. Three women are shown walking towards to viewer along the cobbled street. The reverse has another pencil drawing, possibly showing a distant view of Selby Abbey, a rural landscape and road in the foreground. Both are taken from the artist's sketchbook.
