Brief Description:
Drawing of Carlisle Street and Prospect Street from Chariot Street,Hull, by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), 1900. Shows the view of Carlisle Street looking west towards the corner of of West Street and Prospect Street. In the centre is Watmough's My T shop. Beyond on Prospect Street are the premises of Henry Skelton Alpe, hatters. On the left is a run of large illuminated plate glass shop windows, with a sign for WH Blackburn, tailors, Fashionable ladies pass the shops on the left. A crate stands on the pavement in the left foreground. On the right of the street are the premises of Gray & Son musical instrument dealers, JC Day's Danish Dairy Co, GW Atkinson's tailors and William Witcutt's tailors. No 14 appears to be a photographic studio or dealer. There is horse-drawn traffic in the street and the area is busy with pedestrians. Ink and wash on paper. Signed and dated bottom left corner.
