Brief Description:
Drawing of Market Place with Holy Trinity Church in Hull, by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), about 1890. A row of shops runs on the left with the tower of Holy Trinity Church visible behind in the background. The west side of Market Place has Spencer & Co's grocers stands in the left foreground. George Dimbleby & Co (Navy and Military Stores), tailors is next door, with The King William Hotel next. Premises for Thomas Leaper Cordingley, draper silk merchants, Jonathon Levitt Turner, ironmongers, The Fleece Inn, Robert Francis Frankish grocers, and Edwin Davis & Co Ltd's Department Store are all visible further along the Market Place. The statue of King William III (King Billy) stands in the centre of the cobbled market place.with a horse-drawn tram passing on the right. Ink and wash on circular paper, mounted on card. Handwriten in pencil on reverse 'Market Place with Holy / Trinity Church. Mr Bodger / Bridlington / 941 Black'.
