- Carte de visite photograph showing sepia image of Captain John Gravill, the whaling captain who famously died in 1866 as part of the Diana whaling ship tragedy. The image shows him stood in a photographer's studio, hand on the back of a chair and looking off to the left. He is wearing a suit and no hat. The bottom of the card is inscribed 'J.Valentine. Dundee.'. The reverse of the card is printed 'Photographed by J.Valentine. Dundee.' and is inscribed in pencil 'Captain Gravill. S/S/ Diana.' The card is 6.5cm wide by 10.5cm high.
