- Three identifical postcards with a black and white photograph of a whale carcass on a cradle being lifted from a boat onto the dockside. There are crowds of spectators on the boat and the quayside to the right. The caption below reads 'A 50 Foot Whale'. The reverse has printed text with information about the whale. It reads 'Caught in the Arctic Circle, off Norway, after 5 1/2 hours' battle with whalers, owing to faulty shot. Weight in water, about 25 tons. About 2 years of age - a Bull. Whale meat is eaten in Norway, selling at 1/4 a lb. - has a taste of veal. Whale oil is used in Margarine. The bone makes Guano'. The postcard was produced by R. Ward & Sons Ltd., Newcastle.
