Brief Description:
Stamped and decorated ceramic oil lamp; unpierced handle, small filling hole, round-tipped nozzle and large wick hole. Decorated with raised rim around central area and along nozzle. Decorated in centre with relief lines radiating from the central filling hole and incised line around shoulder with incised dots above and below line. Marked on base with a long vertical line with three pairs of horizontal lines stemming from it (possibly representing a plam leaf) within an incised circle. From Cyprus. From the Crofts Collection. Description:
Stamped and decorated ceramic oil lamp. Orange-buff fabric with greyish-white accretions. The body is pear shaped with a rounded nozzle, handle, concave discus, large groove on the discus and a pierced filling hole. The decoration consists of a heavy ridge around the concave on discus and groove to nozzle. It is ribbed to the filling hole with a wreath of berries around the edge of the discus. It is stamped on the centre of the base with a possible image of a branch (central groove with three shorter angles grooves either side) in a circle.
