- 'Paddle Steamers 'Rob Roy', 'Emperor' and the 'Queen of Scotland', by William Griffin (1800-1883), about 1848. View of three ships on choppy seas. Gee & Co. paddle steamers: 'Rob Roy', built 1836 by Gibson's of Hull, first entered the Hamburg trade but later operated to St Petersburg; 'Emperor' built 1849 by Napiers' of Glasgow, also ran to St Petersburg and Hamburg: and the 'Queen of Scotland', also in the Hamburg trade. Oil on canvas. Modern machine moulded glazed frame with simulated gilded finish.
