Brief Description:
One of a pair of decorated sperm whale teeth. One side of the tooth shows a whale hunt. From the left there is a whale's tail, three low profiles of sperm whales, in the centre there are low profiles of sperm whales, a large tail and to the right the head of a whale out of water showing jaw being attacked by a whale boat. There is another whaleboat in the distance and a port three quarter view of a whaleship on the horizon in heavy seas. The other side of the tooth shows the starboard profile of a fully rigged sailing ship with painted ports, flag at helm and inscribed with saltire cross (dotted). Above this there is a decorative band with lozenge pattern interrupted by a panel inscribed 'Kent 1840' . The base of the tooth is perforated.
