Brief Description:
Pages from the Lloyd's List & Shipping Gazette of 11th March 1927 with a four-page article entitled 'John Lydekker: The Memorial At Lloyd's' by Warren R. Dawson. It concerns the large marble monument on the 'wall above the casualty notice-board' that commemorates the 'munificent bequest made by one John Lydekker, a South Sea shipowners, to the Seamen's Hospital Society'. The original of 1833 was destroyed in the fire at the Royal Exchange in 1838 but the article includes an illustration of it, as well a photograph of the replacement. The second page of the article concerns Lydekker's involvement in whale fisheries and has a reproduction of a painting entitled 'The Northern Whale Fishery'. A reference to the Hull whaling ship 'Harmony' is underlined in blue pen.
