- Brief Description:
- 'Dorset Cove' by Richard Eurich (1903-1992), 1939. Modern colourist view of a closed harbour dock in the foreground with quaysides and a wooden jetty to the bottom left around which a few fishing boats are moored alongside black hulled and blue sided fishing trawler with furled sails on the central mast and a figure working on the stern deck. Behind the trawler is the side entrance of a boathouse with wooden bay window on the white wall above and a carved white figurehead standing on the quayside, with steps rising each side to the pierside on the right against which a sailing barque is moored with sails furled and chalk coastal cliff sides above the blue sunlit bay below. The left side steps rise up a steep hill with harbour buildings and houses on each side and the east end of the town church at the top. At the bottom right is the facade of a red brick Georgian dockside house with a winged white stone staircase either side of a pillared porch and cellar or boathouse doorway below and arched windows on either side and shuttered casement windows above. There is a curving tree trunk with a few autumn leaves rising on the left of the house with the gothic windows and rooftop of a school or public building above it and the pale gable end of another house on the left. Oil on canvas. A high resolution image of this picture is available from www.bridgemanimages.com. Reference No: FER 5938021
