- Watercolour portrait of Thomas Clarkson by Alfred Edward Chalon (1780-1860), about 1790. Clarkson is seated, holding a quill pen, in a Georgian interior with a desk draped in red rug with maps, ink and paper. A bust of the abolitionist Granville Sharp (1735-1813) stands on a carved mantlepiece in the left background. A pile of trade goods from the African continent are piled on the floor to the right of Clarkson. Thomas Clarkson (1760-1846) was an English abolitionist and leading campaigner against the slave trade in the British Empire.
