- Brief Description:
- Medal of white metal commemorating the opening of a home for school teachers and governesses, then known as the 'Asylum for Aged Governesses', on Prince of Wales Road, Kentish Town, London in 1849. The obverse has a profile bust of the Duke of Cambridge and the legend 'H.R.H. ADOLPHUS FREDERICK DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE FIRST ROYAL PATRON', The medallists' names appear below - 'G.C.Adams; Allen & Moore'. The reverse has an image of the newly-built house with 'ASYLUM ERECTED / A.D. 1848' in the exergue, together with the names of the architects 'Wyatt & Brandon'. The inscription above the image reads 'Governesses Benevolent Institution Founded 1843'.
