- Cutting from John Greenwood's Picture of Hull with engravings and a description of the old Botanic Garden, Linnaeus Street, Hull. An engraving of a couple walking in the park appears at the top. The text explains that 'this elegant instituion was commenced in July 1811, and opened to subscribers on the 3rd June following'. It was situated 'about a mile from the centre of the town, on the Anlaby road, at the bottom of Linnaeus Street' and has two lodges, one for the curator and one for the use of the committee. The latter houses the botanic library and a portrait of Linnaeus by Schwanfelder, of Leeds. Mr. J. C. Parker and the 'late Dr. Alderson' are noted as establishing the garden and it notes that 'Mr. Smith is the present curator'. An engraving of the two lodges appears at bottom of the page. The cutting has been mounted on card.
