- Manor Alley during the construction of Alfred Gelder Street drawn by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), 1902. Major street improvements were carried out in Hull in the early 20th century to create wider thouroughfares. In the course of which many buildings were demolished. Alfred Gelder Street was cut across the Old Town to provide for improved east-west traffic. This drawing shows Manor Alley at the time of the construction of this new street. The buildings on the north side of Manor Alley and the south side of Leadenhall Square All that remains is a strip of rough ground between Manor Alley and the new street. Leadenhall Square was notorious in the 19th century as a red light district. have already been demolished. On the left is a warehouse with the the tower of St Mary's Church behind. A woman stands in a shop doorway on the right. Ink and wash on paper. Signed and dated bottom lefft corner.
