The steps up to the entrance arre flanked by lamps. Lowgate, on the right, has several pedestrians and two horse-drawn carriages. The masts of shipping in the Queen's Dock are visible in the distance at the end of the street. Designed by architect Cuthbert Broderck (1821-1905) the Guildhall was completed in 1866 before being rebuilt between 1913 and 1916. This drawing must have been made by Smith from earleir sketches in 1913 ,as this building was actually demolished in 1912. Ink and wash on paper. signed and dated bottom left corner.
