- Brief Description:
- Wincolmlee, showing the old baths, later used as a telephone exchange, drawn by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), about 1890. Streetscene of the Trippet (southern end of Wincolmlee) looking north from the corner of Bridge Street. The baths, seen here on the left of the street, were built in 1850. They had individual baths for men and women, vapour baths, a woman's plunge bath, a men's swimming bath and a laundry. The baths closed in 1903 and were used as a telephone exchange from 1904 to 1925. The building was finally demolished around 1970. To the left of the baths are the premises of Maw Till Kirke & Co. Opposite in the right foreground is the Crooked Billet public house. Ink and wash on paper. Signed bottom left.
