- Brief Description:
- St Mark's Street Bridge over the Foredyke Street from the Sutton Southcoates and Drypool Gasworks, drawn by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), about 1888. Two people stand talking on the stone and iron bridge in the foreground. In the centre background is St Mary's Catholic school and chapel, built in the 'Gothic' style in 1891. The tower and chimney to the right of St Mary's belonged to the Dansom Lane Oil Mills, leased to J W Roberts in 1889. To the right of the tower the top of Block House Mill can be seen. This was a four-sailed windmill converted in about 1812 to a stamper press oil seed crushing mill. Ink and wash on paper. Signed bottom left corner.
