Brief Description:
Church Street, Drypool, looking south towards St Peter's Church from Raikes Street, drawn by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), about 1882. The masts of shipping in Drypool Basin and Vicotria Dock cna be seen in the centre background, beyond the tower of St Peter's church. Many of the businesses on Church Street were conected with shipping or trade and included ship riggers, engineers and shipsmiths. On the right is the yard of Burgess & Co raff merchants (raff was foreign timber). Next door are the premises of Thomas Butters, marine store dealer. Ink and wash on paper. Signed bottom right corner.
