- Brief Description:
- The Bull Hotel in Stepney looking towards the town, drawn by Frederick Schultz Smith (1860-1925), about 1884. Looking south towards the city this drawing shows the area known as Stepney, with Stepney Lane on the left and Park Lane on the right. The Bull Hotel stands on the corner on the left, advertised by its bull sign. A short terrace of shops stands in front of the Stepney Methodist New Conexion Chapel, built in 1869 and demolished in 1970. On the right at the junction with Parlk Lane stands a double-fronted office building, at the time the premises of bottling engineer Thomas Hill. Just visible beyond is the Rose Tavern. Ink and wash on paper. Signed by the artist at the lower left corner.
