Landscape
The current attribution to Rathbone cannot be sustained by precise comparison with signed works by him. The type of composition however, with its vaguely Italianate overtones but with clearly English figures and setting, does recall the Lake District landscape of Rathbone. The picture has been retained here as 'follower of Rathbone' rather than being placed amongst the entirely unidentifiable English School pictures.
