Moonlight scene

Abraham Pether was a specialist in moonlight scenes, often with topographical interest. This composition seems to be derived from a prototype of Aert van der Neer (1603-1677). The handling is not directly reminiscent of Abraham Pether's compositions. However, there were many 18th century imitators of Neer as his moonlights were popular. Abraham Pether was almost certainly one of these imitators.
