H.M.S. Vindictive

It was not only in the medium of oil painting that Ward was skilled. His drawings and watercolours demonstrate his excellent draughtsmanship. This is a port side view of 'Vindictive', built as a third rate at Portsmouth in 1813 and reduced to fifty guns in 1832. She was wrecked in 1871. The scene also includes a cutter and various other naval vessels. On the left a seaman is beaching a rowing boat, whilst another stoops down near the bow.
