Snow Scene

Fritz Thaulow was a painter, etcher and engraver of landscapes and genre scenes, as well as a writer. Born in Sweden, he went on to become a popular, well-established artist throughout mainland Europe who received numerous awards. He was a prominent figure amongst French art circles and co-founded the Salon du Champ de Mars. Thaulow's art work was influenced by the French Impressionists, particularly Claude Monet's (1840-1926) watercolours. Although his working methods were very different, Thaulow shared their interests in capturing the atmosphere of a place. He specialised in the depiction of streams, rivers and small villages bathed in moonlight or covered in snow, as shown in Snow Scene.
