Represented in many major collections, Weschke, born in Germany, came to England in 1948 and has lived here ever since. His distinctive style and approach to the human form - neither abstract nor figurative - make this painting a valuable addition to the Ferens collection. Weschke's more fluid approach to the nude is in stark contrast to Euan Uglow's Curled Nude on a Stool with its painstaking geometrical accuracy.
