Italian landscape with a stone pine
This small painting has every appearance of having been based on a study of drawing made on the spot, so great is its naturalism. Unlike so many of Wilson's other naturalistic small compositions this one does not seem to have been repeated. There is a powerful feeling of the open air with the curious form of the pine tree allowing a freshly painted vista to appear on both sides.
