Poppies

Arundel owned a building firm, and specialised in lighthouse construction and repair. He started painting in his thirties, but did not take it up seriously until just before the Second World War. He studied at the Bradford Arts Club, and later went on to exhibit extensively around England and in Paris. Poppies is typical of his subject matter, which was mainly landscapes, flowers and portraits. He frequently signed his name in red paint. Although he was born and died in Bradford, Arundel is known to have lived for a time in Lincolnshire.
