Decay
A dramatic addition to the Ferens collection of local views, this work was presented to the Gallery by the artist after the 1991 Winter Exhibition. Painted while Matt Carless was a Fine Art student at Humberside Polytechnic, now Humberside University, the decaying facade of the old Co-op building in Kingston Square has been used as a metaphor by the artist to present the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe.
