Cotswold River Scene

After an early career in banking, Davis left to study art in Paris before embarking upon a career as a professional illustrator. He specialised in black and white images and produced commissions for numerous publications including The Windsor Magazine. In the latter half of his life he gave up this career to devote his time to painting and drawing. With a passion for landscapes, Davis worked in a mostly traditional manner, despite the more surreal or self-expressive developments in contemporary landscape painting by other artists such as Paul Nash (1889-1946) and Graham Sutherland (1903-80).
