The Son of a Saint

Following a period of military service, Dinet worked as a pupil at L'Academie Julian. He was profoundly influenced by a visit to an African colony in Algeria in 1822, and thereafter returned every year to continue his study of Arab Africa. Dinet received a number of medals and was made Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1905. This painting was a study for another oil entitled Fils du Mrabeth, which was displayed at the Paris Salon in 1901 and set the seal on his reputation.
