Still Life - Vegetables

Codrington was a painter and etcher of figures, interiors and still-lifes. She studied at the Royal Academy Schools and exhibited at many London and provincial galleries. In 1923 she also showed at the Paris Salon where she received an Honourable Mention. Codrington's paintings range from quiet interiors to genre and figure subjects, painted with realistic detail. Still Life - Vegetables provides a contrast to the more progressive artistic developments in England during the 1920s. Codrington appears committed to more traditional art practices. Her close observation of nature, attention to detail and heightened realism, share strong similarities to the still-lifes and interiors of one of her contemporaries, Fred Elwell (1870-1958).
