Still-Life

Born in Lancashire, Goodwin studied in Liverpool before teaching drawing and painting at Hull College of Art. He had his first solo exhibition in 1960 at Hull University, although his work featured in a number of group shows prior to then, including an East Riding Artists exhibition of 1950, from which this work was acquired. This is one of two works by Goodwin in the Ferensâ collection. Both were purchased during the 1950s which suggests that at this time Goodwin was preoccupied with painting still-lives and the study of light and form.
