Pepperbox Barrelled Pistol by George Wallis Junior, Hull, c.1825

This unusual looking gun is called a pepperbox pistol. The barrel looks like a pepper shaker with holes in the end. Not all the bullets were fired at once. It is a kind of revolver. This means that when fired the barrel automatically turns round ready to fire the next bullet. This made it much quicker than old fashioned guns that had to be reloaded after just one shot. This pepperbox pistol was made by one of best gunsmiths in Hull, George Wallis Junior.
