Walrus Tusk Cribbage Board Made in Alaska by Angokwazhuk ('Happy Jack') c.1870-1918
This tusk is thought to have been decorated by the most famous of Inuit carvers. His name was Angokwazhuk. He lived in Alaska but in 1892 he travelled with Captain Bodfish to San Francisco. During this trip he was given the nickname of 'Happy Jack'. Cribbage is a card game that needs a special scoring board. It is thought that in 1892 Angokwazhuk may have carved the first ever cribbage board made from walrus tusk.
