Ship's figurehead, made in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, 1827

The paddle steamer 'London' worked on the Hull-London trade carrying cargo and passengers. The London was built at Gainsborough in 1823 for the Hull Steam Packet Company. The following year the London was chartered by Gee and Co for the Hamburg route. After a year she returned to coastal trade sailing between Hull and London. Originally 32.6m, the London was extended to 38.5m in 1842 and scrapped in 1861.
